XXIII "ANDRÉS SEGOVIA" INTERNATIONAL CLASSICAL GUITAR COMPETITION
The La Herradura Local Authority, and the Almuñécar Town Council, in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Culture, the Cultural Departments of the Andalusian Regional Government and the Provincial Government in Granada, invite entries to the XXIII “Andrés Segovia” International Classical Guitar Competition, to be held at La Herradura from 19 to 24 November 2007.
The object of this competition, open to all concert performers, is to promote the appreciation and study of the guitar, and also to honour the memory of Don Andrés Segovia y Torres, adoptive son of Almuñécar and La Herradura.
COMPETITION RULES
I. ENROLMENT
I.1. The XXIII "Andrés Segovia" International Classical Guitar Competition is open to any guitarist, of whatever nationality, who is under 35 years of age at the date of the Competition. An application from any candidate who has previously won First Prize in this Competition will not be accepted.
I.2. The fully-completed entry form should be sent directly, or via the academic or governmental authorities of the candidate's country, before 1 November 2007, to

The following documentation must be sent with the entry form:
a) Photocopy of identity card, passport, or document certifying identity and place of residence in the case of a person who is either stateless or living outside his country of birth.
b) ) Photocopies of any academic diplomas obtained.
c) Typewritten Curriculum Vitae
d) Two recent passport-style photos (one of which should be 9 x 12 cms.)

II. QUALIFYING ROUNDS
The XXIII "Andrés Segovia" International Classical Guitar Competition will consist of three qualifying rounds, performed in public. At 13.00 hrs. on 19 November 2007, a public draw will be held in the La Herradura Municipal Offices to decide the order in which the accepted competitors will play.
II. 1. First Qualifying Round: In the order decided by the draw, and at the place and time to be announced, the selected competitors will interpret:
· An individually-chosen work, of no more than 10 minutes´duration.
· Segoviana, (Ed. Heugel), by Darius Milhaud, and
- Preludio en mi mayor BWV 1006 A by J.S.Bach.
At the end of the First Round, the Jury will announce the names of those competitors who have passed through to the Second Qualifying Round..
The Competitors will give the Technical Secretary the score of the individually-chosen works for the Second Qualifying Round.
II. 2. Second Qualifying Round: Competitors who have passed the First Round successfully will interpret the following, in the order previously established, or by a new draw:
· Two or more individually-chosen works, different from the previous choice and of contrasting styles, and not exceeding 15 minutes in total.
· Cromático, by Jorge Miguel González Rodríguez, awarded the First Prize the XIX “Andrés Segovia” Composition Competition, 2006 (Madrid: Editorial E.M.E.C.)
At the end of the Second Round, the Jury announce the names of those competitor who have through to the third and Final Round.
II. 3. Third Round: Composition for guitar and orchestra (with orchestra or piano accompaniment). Competitors who have passed the Second Qualifying Round will interpret, in the order already established, or in a new order decided by draw:
· Concierto para Guitarra y ORquesta Op.30 by Mauro Giuliani
After a period of deliberation at the end of the Third Round, the Jury will announce publicly the names of the winners of the Competition.
The prize-winners must collect their prizes personally and participate in the Closing Ceremony.
III. PRIZES
The Prizes are as follows:
The "Andrés Segovia" FIRST PRIZE of 9.000 (nine thousand) euros, together with a Superior Quality guitar made by Paco Santiago Marín, valued 7.500 (seven thousand five hundred) euros, and a recital organised by the Asociación Guitarrística "América Martínez" of Seville.
The "Andrés Segovia" SECOND PRIZE of 4.000 (four thousand) euros.
The "Andrés Segovia" THIRD PRIZE of 2.000 (two thousand) euros.
The “Leo Brouwer” SPECIAL PRIZE of 700 (seven hundred) euros for the best interpretation of the work "Cromático" by Jorge Miguel González Rodríguez, First Prize in the XIX "Andrés Segovia" Composition Competition, 2006.
The other competitors who reach the Third Round will receive a "Diploma de Finalista".
IV. THE JURY
IV. 1. The Jury will be chosen by mutual consent of the Organising Institutions, and will consist of a President, a Secretary and a minimum of four Members (maximum of six) of recognised eminence in the world of music and the guitar.
IV. 2. The Jury will judge not only each Competitor's performance but will give equal weight to the interest, the difficulty and the diversity of style of the individually-chosen works; also as to whether all the pieces are played from memory.
IV. 3. The Jury reserves the right not to award any of the prizes. The Jury's decision is final.
V. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
V. 1. The Organisers will extend invitations to attend the Second and Third Rounds to music professionals (impresarios, recording company representatives, music critics, etc.) together with the media, who will be allowed to broadcast the performances upon request.
V. 2. The "Andrés Segovia" International Classical Guitar Competition reserves for itself the copyright title of all the Competition performances and of any possible recording, or public broadcast thereof, for a period of two years.
V. 3. The Organising Committee accepts no responsibility for indemnification for any possible damage loss or harm caused or suffered by the Competitors as a result of the Competition being held.
V. 4. Any competitor who is discovered to have given false information in the documentation which he has presented will be automatically and immediately disqualified.
V. 5. The Competition rules are binding on all applicants.
